Top female boxer Anisha Bashir’s plans to camp in South Africa are facing hitches as stakeholders are not coming forward to support her.
Bashir had planned to camp in the Rainbow Nation ahead of the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver belt fight against champion Chantelle Cameron in London on June 28.
The Malawian’s trainer, Clyde Musonda of Delta Force Boxing Academy in Zimbabwe, said they would continue with the rest of camp training either in Malawi or Zimbabwe.
“It is unfortunate that we have not received the support which we needed. As such, it is unlikely that we will go to South Africa. We will just train here in Malawi or maybe return to Zimbabwe,” Musonda said.
The trainer said he would deploy modern training methods of boxing to help Bashir improve and master their game plan.
“We will make the most of the facilities which we have to come up with the best training programme so that Anisha should realise her dream. This dream is for Malawi and Africa as a whole,” he said.
Musonda said together with Bashir’s manager, Craig Rousseau of No Pain No Gain Boxing Promotions, they were not relaxing as their target was to turn the fighter into a true global athlete.
“Rousseau is also working tirelessly to put things together so that we have the best preparations,” he said.
There is a lot at stake in the fight for Bashir as Zimbabwean businessman, Felix Munyarazi, promised her a Mercedes Benz C180 if she wins.
The fight is also a WBC Final Eliminator to determine the next mandatory challenger for the WBC Women’s World Lightweight title.
