Some small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) are speaking highly of the makeshift markets set at shopping malls in the country’s major cities, rating them as ideal for exposure.
Monthly makeshift market at Lilongwe’s Gateway Mall, organised by Estac Events, has become popular, attracting SMEs from other parts of the country.
A businessperson from Blantyre, Vera Mumba, said such markets to increase sales volume.
“In terms of returns, we earn more money than when selling at normal markets,” Mumba said.
Another businessperson, Lucy Mandala, said the forum was ideal for creating links and striking business deals.
Estac Events Managing Director, Tadala Chinkhwezule, said plans were in the pipeline to be holding the event every two weeks.
“We have over 70 SMEs participating, 25 of which are coming from outside Lilongwe; mostly Blantyre and Mzuzu,” Chinkhwezule said.
Through the initiative, the event organiser pays the ground owner and charges SMEs for space to exhibit their merchandise.
