The Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) has told district elections staff and constituency returning officers to be diligent in the way they will handle next month’s presidential, parliamentary and Local Government Elections.
According to commissioner Linda Kunje, polling is the heart of all their preparations.
“One way of achieving this is by ensuring that we all have the information and we are well versed with any bit of it. If we mess it at polling, we mess everything. Chances of correction may not be there,” Kunje said.
She was speaking in Lilongwe Monday during the opening of training of district elections clerks and constituency returning officers on polling procedure and results management.
Sydney Banda, one of the participants in the training, said they were ready for the elections.
In 2014, there were challenges in the way the results were being compiled. Former Mec chairperson, the late Maxon Mbendera, said, in some cases, the polling staff were failing to properly add the figures.
