Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development has lifted restrictions which were imposed on stakeholders due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Lilongwe District.
The government issued a ban on slaughter and sell of meat due to foot and mouth disease outbreak in October.
A press statement released by the ministry on Tuesday, and signed by Principal Secretary Gray Nyandule Phiri, indicates that the act ion follows successful disease control measures employed in the district.
The surveillance outcome shows that there are no further cases following completion of vaccinations in all high-risk zones.
The statement says people can now slaughter and sell all live stock including cattle, goats, sheep and pigs in Lilongwe District.
¨The ministry would like to inform the general public that it has authorised with immediate effect resumption of slaughter and sale of all livestock including cattle, goats, sheep and pigs in Lilongwe District with immediate effect,” reads part of the statement.
The ministry has also removed restriction on livestock and livestock products movement in the affected areas within Lilongwe District.
