Giants Tigresses have called for reforms so as to ensure smooth running of the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League.
Tigresses Coach, Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa, was reacting to incidents which happened this season, with the team, at some point, getting suspended from playing games due to a transfer wrangle surrounding shooter Lauren Ngwira.
“There were some disciplinary issues that threatened to spoil the league. Justice was not administered fairy in a sense that in some cases, judgements were instant whereas other cases took time to be settled,” she said.
The former Malawi coach and skipper also felt that fixture congestion was another problem.
“First, the fixture ought to be released in advance so as to enable teams to prepare accordingly. It raises eyebrows when the fixture is withheld or released in bits-and-pieces. This applies elsewhere when the Queens go for an international tournament. They are well aware of opponents they will meet and on which day.
“Second, the fixture pile-up is unhealthy for players. I mean playing three games each week is bad for players’ body condition, so we need to have a good environment to safeguard the players’ health,” she said.
Blantyre and Districts Netball Committee General Secretary, Annie Hanjahanja, said Tigresses’ concerns can be appreciated if presented formally to the league.
“If they have those concerns, let them bring them forward,” she said.
