BAGUS—I have moved on personal grounds

Barely a week after announcing his resignation from the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Salim Bagus has rejoined the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) he dumped a year ago.

On November 1, Bagus left MCP citing personal grounds, leaving his constituents wondering on his next political move.

Wednesday, he announced his reunion with the ruling party.

“I have been telling the media that I was consulting, especially in my constituency, and a lot of people told me to join DPP because of its policies. They are saying, the way DPP is developing this country, there is no way any party can win the 2019 elections except DPP. So, I have listened to views of those people and I have rejoined this party,” he said.

Bagus, who was elected during the MCP primaries to represent the party as shadow legislator for Chikwawa Central Constituency, is yet to comment on whether he still harbours ambitions to vie for the parliamentary seat.

“I need to find out if DPP has not conducted primary elections in that constituency. I will, then, see the way forward,” he said.
