Former Silver Strikers forward Binwell Katinji has started his career in eSwatini’s MTN League with Malanti Chiefs on a high with impressive displays in the opening four games.
Katinji has netted six goals in four league games since he moved to eSwatini before the start of the season.
He netted a brace in Chiefs’ 2-2 draw against Moneni Pirates last week before scoring the only goal of the match as his team defeated Matsapa United 1-0 on Tuesday.
In an interview from eSwatini, formerly Swaziland, Katinji said he was enjoying life in the league.
“Everything is alright here and I am advancing my career. I want to play here for one season and see what happens next. I might go to South Africa or Holland if all goes well,” he said.
Katinji joined Chiefs as a direct replacement for Charles Molopo, who joined South Africa Absa Premiership side Baroka FC after finishing as the league’s top goal-scorer with 17 goals last season.
The Malawian has earned praise from Malanti Captain Thembu Mayisela who hailed him as the right replacement for Molopo.
“We are happy about having Binwell on board. When Charles left, we felt like there was no one who would replace him but Binwell has surely filled the void,’’ he is quoted as saying in Times of Swaziland.
Before going to eSwatini, Katinji was one of Silver’s most reliable strikers. He also earned several national team call-ups and netted a brace as Malawi national football team drew 2-2 against Chinese side Guangzhou R&F during the opening ceremony of Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe early last year.
Chiefs are on position five on the log table with nine points from playing four games.
