Tedzani expansion ends March 2019

Expansion and dredging works underway at Tedzani Hydro Power Station would be completed in March 2019, Energy Generation Company (Egenco) has said.

The project is estimated to cost K5 billion.

In response to an emailed questionnaire, Egenco spokesperson, Moses Gwanza, said upon its completion, the power station would add 18 megawatts to the national power grid.

“The project on dredging [removing of silt from the dam], expansion and river training (diverting a river that was bringing silt and trash at the pond) at Tedzani is progressing well and on course,” he said.

Gwaza added that the expansion of the dam and reclaimed capacity mean that Egenco would be able to keep more water at the pond.

“This means that we would be able to run the machines at full capacity for longer hours during peak periods resulting in increased capacity available to the Single Buyer,” Gwaza added.

This coincides with major rehabilitation works of Nkula A Power Station.

The work is being implemented under the $350 million worth Millennium Challenge Compact of the Unites States.
