Charles Kamanga and Meke Mwase, coaches for Moyale Barracks and TN Stars, respectively, have faulted Mzuzu-based referees for alleged poor officiation which triggered chaos at Mzuzu Stadium in a TNM Super League match on Sunday.
The match was stopped for five minutes in the 70th minute after referee Newton Nyirenda blew for offside TN’s striker China Chima’s effort, forcing fans to throw stones onto the pitch.
Mwase described the officiating personnel as incompetent.
“This is not the result we expected. Referees are very biased and this is not good for in the country football development. It is very sad experiencing such poor officiation,” Mwase said.
Kamanga also described the officiation by Mzuzu-based referees as unsatisfactory.
“We enjoy playing away and not when our home games are handled by these biased and incompetent referees. During a game [away] against Civil Sporting Club in Lilongwe, we commended the referees for a good job,” Kamanga said.
Moyale won the game through Gastin Simkonda’s brace and other goals from Crispin Fukizi and Lovemore Jere while Stain Davie, Chirwa and Junior Maluwata scored for the Kasungu-based team.
National Referees Association General Secretary, Chris Kalichero, has since backed the Mzuzu-based referees, describing them as qualified. He challenged all stakeholders to abide by the Laws of the Game.
