The government of India has said it values the relationship it has with Malawi.

Speaking during the opening of the celebration of International Day of Yoga, Head of Chancery, Deputy High Commissioner of India, Anil Kumar, said India would continue to partner Malawi in development initiatives.

“Currently, we offer so many fully paid scholarships to India. Recently, there was a delegation, led by the Vice- President Saulos Chilima, to India. This shows that our relationship is getting better by the day and we hope this relationship continues to get better,” he said.

Kumar also hailed the role of yoga in physical development.

“Unlike other exercises, yoga works on the whole being. You work on your body, soul and mind. Recently, we have seen Malawians patronising yoga activities, which improves the health of a human being,” Kumar said.

International Day of Yoga, commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day, is celebrated annually on June 21 since its inception in 2015. The day was declared unanimously by the United Nations General Assembly.
