Relegated Chitipa United have said they want an instant return to the TNM Super League next season.
Chitipa Coach, Robert Mzinza, said they want to finish the first-round at the summit of Simama Premier Division log table.
Chitipa have 19 points from seven games, at par with second-positioned debutants Manyamula United, who have 19 points from nine matches.
“We have strategies in place. We have maintained players that we used in the top-flight league. It is this Super League experience that is helping us to amass important points,” Mzinza said.
Chitipa exited the top-flight league in their debut last season.
Premier Division champions from all regions earn Super League promotion to replace relegated bottom three teams.
Northern Region Football Association General Secretary, Masiya Nyasulu, said Chitipa should tread carefully because other teams are also eyeing promotion.
“Competition is tough this year. Chitipa should just ensure that they maintain their good form; otherwise, at this stage, it is everyone’s championship,” Nyasulu said.
Last weekend, Chitipa held Chilumba United 1-1 before beating Chilumba Barracks 1-0.
Kabwafu United anchor the log table with four points from eight games.
