Saulos Chilima still mum on his next move

Vice-President Saulos Chilima’s second function after he declared not to contest at any position at the forthcoming ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) elective convention has seen him urging churches in the country to be active on national development issues.

He was speaking at St Charles Lwangwa golden jubilee celebrations held Sunday at the Roman Catholic Church’s premises in Zomba.

This comes at a time the country does not know the veep’s next step in politics after his announcement last week that he would be following procedures of leaving the ruling party.

But, in his speech at the event, Chilima could not be drawn to comment on the political situation in the country, apart from emphasising the importance of churches to the nation.

“You must make sure that you take part in church activities as Jesus Christ did in maintaining the holiness in the house of God but also take part in things happening in your nation,” he said.

He said Christians in the country should have faith, saying faith is not passed from one person to another.

Speaking earlier, Zomba Diocese Bishop, George Desmond Tambala, said the church should build on success registered in the past 50 years.

“It is, therefore, important that you, as a church, must grow bigger by building another church building as the old one does not have enough room for all of you,” Tambala said.

Some of the notable faces present were those of University of Malawi Vice Chancellor John Kalenga Saka and High Court judge Zione Ntaba.

Mulanje South West legislator, Patricia Kaliati, also attended the event.

There were no DPP supporters at the event but, before the Vice-President arrived, the road leading to St Charles Lwanga was lined up with people who were donning attired emblazoned with the SKC [Saulos Klaus Chilima] brand.
