Southern Region Volleyball League (SRVL) has called on its ambassadors at the inaugural Vale Logistics national volleyball finals to put more effort in their preparations in order win the championship.
The tournament is expected to throw off this Friday at College of Medicine (CoM) Sports Complex in Blantyre with all 18 teams in both the men’s and ladies’ categories.
The men’s category will have 10 teams while the ladies’ category will consist of eight.
SRVL Chairperson, Pacharo Ngwira, reminded his league’s representatives that playing at home does not necessarily warrant victory unless players work hard and remain focused.
“It is my belief that our representatives had ample time to prepare for the finals. We believe they have done their homework and are geared for the championship.
“We wish to remind them that they need to work as a unit and never give up if they are to excel. Otherwise playing at home without focus and determination will not yield anything,” Ngwira said.
In the ladies section, Blazers, Gemz, DMI and CoM all qualified by virtue of being the only four sides that took part in the regional qualifiers at Blantyre Youth Centre over the weekend.
This meant that the games were narrowed down to rivalry clashes as teams wanted to come out tops to grab the bragging rights.
In the men’s section, the region will be represented by Thunders, Cobbe Artillery, College of Medicine and Poly Troopers [Fapphire].
Thunders senior player, James Mangani, said they were fine-tuning to avoid disappointing their fans during the competition.
Zione Daudi, who plays for Blazers, said, even though they are being ranked as outsiders, they are determined to pull some surprises in the tournament which ends on Sunday.
