Participants to the just-ended Malawi International Trade Fair have applauded the fair, touting a rise in trade deals made.

The exhibitors also said security provided to their goods during the fair was satisfactory as compared to the case in previous years.

In the past, cases of theft and robbery were rampant during the exhibition.

During this year’s fair, private firm Walle Security Services partnered the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) to provide security services for free.

Walle General Manager, MacDonald Walle, said the company was giving back to the private sector for supporting its business.

“Our partnership with MCCCI was to let Blantyre companies sample our services. Apart from that, we wanted the fair to be a success.

“This is an international event that attracts foreign participants. We want these people to carry a good message to their countries,” he said.

MCCCI publicist, Millie Kasunda, said the partnership with Walle reduced cases of theft during the fair.

One of the exhibitors, Thokozile Umaganiza of Thokozani Tailoring, said security services provided was satisfactory.

She said there were no complaints of theft throughout the fair.

“Our properties were safe. The efforts by MCCCI to partner Walle and the police have yielded positive results,” she said.

Another exhibi tor from Tanzania, Maryrose Muindi, said there was a great improvement in the provision of security services this year
