The 2017 ICT Association of Malawi (Ictam) innovation award winner, Mervin Kalipinde, has said he is confident that his Iris innovation will be competitive at this year’s African Innovation Summit in Rwanda.
Kalipinde left the country on Tuesday for Rwanda where he will participate at the continental innovation summit.
“I am very excited that I will be representing Malawi at the event. I am very confident in my capabilities and innovations and I know that I will fly Malawi’s flag high,” Kalipende said.
Kalipande won the best innovation award during the Ictam awards last year through his Iris innovation.
The Iris is architectural visualisation software which is interactive and allows a person to change different settings including paint and furniture before actually constructing a building.
Kalipande said his innovation has received support locally as about 12 architectural companies have been working with him.
He also hailed Ictam for staging the awards, describing it as a biggest forum wher e he for exposure to the industry.
Ictam Vice President, Bram Fudzulani, said the innovation was a stepping towards exposing the country’s ICT sector to the regional market.
“This is the first time we are sending an individual at such a big event. It will help him gain international exposure,” he said
