Senior players boost Tigresses

Tigresses Coach, Peace Chawinga- Kaluwa, has hailed the return of senior players after a lacklustre start to the team’s Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League season.

Seasoned shooter, Sindie Simtowe-Msowoya and all-rounder, Linda Magombo-Munthali, played crucial roles when Tigresses defeated fast-improving Serenity Stars 56-41 at Blantyre Youth Centre on Sunday.

“It is good to have senior players as they use their experience to adjust to the demands of the game. We are taking each game seriously and it is important to have them. They made the difference,” Chawinga- Kaluwa said.

Simtowe-Msowoya was serving a ban after a scuffle with an opponent last season whereas Magombo-Munthali usually misses matches because of commitments as she operates from Lilongwe.

Chawinga-Kaluwa also said Tigresses ticked on the day because of an efficient game plan.

“We approach each game with a different strategy and, in doing so, we compete strongly and confuse our opponents,” she said.

Serenity Stars Coach, Garvey Nyondo, said his team was unfortunate to lose the match.

“It was a well-balanced game but, somehow, we lost steam and our opponents took advantage,” Nyondo said.

In other games, Thunder Queens beat Machinjiri Sisters 106- 19 whereas Prison Sisters registered two impressive wins by defeating Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters 88-11 and Chilomoni Sisters 78- 44.

Defending champions Kukoma Diamonds were also in action and they walloped Shizaella Queens 88-24.
