One of the country’s commercial banks, NBS Bank,Thusday held a Health Day where members of staff underwent various medical checkups.

Speaking in Blantyre, NBS Bank Chief Executive Officer, Kwanele Ngwenya, said a healthy workforce is crucial for the growth of the bank.

Ngwenya said NBS Bank believes healthy employees are central to the delivery of a healthy bottom line.

“Therefore, we deliberately pay particular attention to their health. The introduction of the Health Day is one of the many initiatives that we have put in place.

“For example, every Tuesday and Thursday our staff members undergo aerobics which are administered by a professional fitness instructor,” Ngwenya said.

Among others the members of staff underwent tuberculosis screening, sexually transmitted infections screening, malaria testing, body mass index calculation, diabetes screening as well as blood pressure checking.

“This is preventive healthcare because early detection of any disease gives anybody the best chance to get the right treatment quickly, thereby, avoiding any complications.

“These checkups are free of charge, voluntary and confidential,” Ngwenya said.

One of the employees, Olivia Kadzamira, hailed NBS Bank for the Health Day, saying it provided an opportunity for the staff members to get tested within the working environment.

“Most of the times, we are very busy to the extent of not finding time for medical checkups. However, this initiative has helped us to get tested within the workplace,” Kadzamira said.
