Emmanuel Zoya suffers injury setback

Nyasa Big Bullets defender, Emmanuel Zoya, has suffered a groin injury that threatens to ruin his chances of donning the Flames’ colours.

After being sidelined last season, Zoya was given a rare call-up by the Flames mentor, Ronny van Geneudgen.

However, Zoya, who was voted last season’s best TNM Super League defender, suffered a groin injury on Monday, and primary examination indicates that the left-back-cum-centre-back will miss training for two weeks.

The Flames Team Manager, James Sangala, confirmed the development, saying Zoya was still under observation.

“It is sad that it has happened this way. The technical panel, led by the head coach, decided to give him a chance, following an impressive season. Our doctors are still monitoring him,” he said.

Sangala also said Silver Strikers’ play-maker, Levison Maganizo, did not report for training as he was also injured.

Meanwhile, van Geneudgen has exempted under-20 players, Peter Banda and Chimwemwe Idana, from afternoon training sessions to enable them to attend classes in the morning.

Banda and Idana will sit for Malawi School Certificate of Education examinations in June.

As we went to press, the senior national team was expected to break so as to pave way for junior national team training.
