Castel in Bring Back Empties campaign

by

Castel Malawi Limited, formerly Carlsberg Malawi has embarked on Bring Back Empties campaign to its channel partners across the country.
The call means that consumers of alcoholics and non-alcoholics who keep bottles and crates in their homes or shops should return them to Southern, Central and Northern region’s designated Castel channel partners.
According to a media statement, any consumer would be given deposits for bottles and crates they possess and have brought forward to the channel partners.
However, it was not immediately clear as to what has led to this campaign because, unlike in the past when lack of bottles led to the scarcity of soft drinks, there is no scarcity this time.
Last week, Castel Group officially registered its business in Malawi and changed its name from Carlsberg Malawi to Castel Malawi Limited.
This comes two years after Danish Brewer, Carlsberg, sold its stake in Carlsberg Malawi—an arm of Press Corporation Limited (PCL)—to Castel Group for it to execute strategies to slim down the company and focus on core businesses.
PCL—which used to hold a 50 percent stake in Carlsberg Malawi— sold 10 percent of its equity, which went to the then parent firm, Carlsberg Denmark, in 2013.
