President Peter Mutharika has commended Malawi’s multilateral and bilateral cooperating partners for standing with the country despite the hard times Malawians are going through.
Mutharika made the remarks at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre during a state banquet he hosted in honour of Zambian president Edgar Lungu, Kenyan Vice- President William Ruto and former Mozambican president Joachim Chissano who, among other foreign and local dignitaries, graced Malawi’s 51st Independence Anniversary celebrations.
“Malawi attaches great importance to the friendship and cooperation which have developed between our friendly peoples, which in turn have positively affected our relations on bilateral and multilateral levels,” he said.
Mutharika said the excellent bilateral relations also apply to Malawi’s relations with Kenya and Mozambique.
Mutharika said the theme of this year’s independence celebrations which is ‘Towards Economic Transformation and Inclusive Economic Development in Malawi’, is in line with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government’s desire and vision to develop Malawi.
“I wish, therefore, to encourage all Malawians to be united, work hard and be patriotic in developing Malawi as no one will develop our country except ourselves,” said Mutharika.
