Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development has said Malawi Growth and Development Strategy (MGDS) III will be ready by the end of this month.
Malawi has been without MGDS, which is the national development blueprint, since June last year when MGDS II phased out.
Ministry of Finance spokesperson, Davis Sado said the third phase of the country’s development plan is almost ready for circulation.
He said when MGDS II phased out last June, the government developed an issue development paper which has been acting as a temporary national guidance on development mainly aiming at stabilising the economy.
Sado said the issue development paper incorporated some of the issues in the second phase of the MGDS which were not fulfilled.
“The issue paper isolated some of the issues in the MGDS II which were not fulfilled. It is this paper which informed formulation of the 2016/17 budget,” he said.
He said when the ministry was formulating the 2017/18 budget, the ministry had already done a comprehensive analysis of MGDS II and most of the issues that came from the analysis were incorporated into the 2017/18 budget.
However, Sado could not outline the issues saying doing so would be pre-empting the official launch of the paper.
MGDSII selected agriculture and food security, energy, tourism as well as transport and communication as key development areas.
