Former Livingstonia Synod General Secretary retires

FORMER Deputy General Secretary for Livingstonia Synod of the CCAP, Reverend Maurice Munthali has announced his retirement from active ministry in the synod’s service.

Munthali once served in Lilongwe Presbytery before he was transferred to Katawa Congregation in Mzuzu.

Meanwhile, the recent General Administrative Conference (Gac) announced that Moderator for the synod, Reverend John Gondwe will replace Munthali serving the Katawa congregation.

“I have not resigned but retired from active ministry. I am happy that I have served God in church,” said Munthali reluctantly commenting further.

However Munthali’s retirement has come after he was seen speaking at several Alliance for Democracy (Aford) rallies held in Rumphi.

Munthali was also seen at Aford Executive meeting when the party welcomed Member of Parliament for Karonga Central Constituency, Frank Mwenefumbo in Lilongwe.

Some unconfirmed reports indicate that Munthali is aspiring to contest for Rumphi West Constituency, on Aford ticket.

Munthali is renowned for his long political prayers, which many people continue sharing on social media platforms. He was also popular with political sermons, like the one he delivered during July 20, 2011 killings memorial ceremony that was held at Zolozolo cemetery in Mzuzu.

During the event, he openly criticised Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) administration for failing to hounor the 21 people who were shot by the police during the demonstrations. Munthali served for the synod for over 20 years.
