The performance of Southern Region Volleyball League (SRVL) teams during national volleyball tournaments has been pathetic but three sides, Thunders, Poly Troopers and Stingers, are hoping to impress during at this weekend’s event in Lilongwe.
The trio will represent SRVL in the men’s category of the national finals following a two-day qualifying tournament at Polytechnic Annexe court over the weekend.
They paid tribute to Lube Masters for sponsoring the region’s league which kept them active ahead of the national tournament.
Thunders Captain, Dokiso Mkhalipi, said the teams were impressive during the qualifiers because they were still fresh from competing in the league.
“Those that watched the qualifying tournament will bear testimony that we played some fantastic volleyball. This was because we have been active for months because of Lube Masters’ sponsorship. We have all the hope that this time we will shine at the national finals and frustrate big teams such as Kamuzu Barracks, Moyale and Blue Eagles,” he said.
Thunders finished the tournament at the top with Cobbe Barracks were runners-up. Poly followed on third position.
It is yet to be seen if the three will manage to break the dominance of Northern and Central region teams that usually win the top two slots in every national tournament.
