THE body of High Court Judge Nyakwawa Usiwausiwa was laid to rest at his home village Matipwiri, in the area of Traditional Authority Nthiramanja in Mulanje on Saturday.
Usiwausiwa died in a car accident in Lilongwe on Thursday months after his appointment as high court judge.
The accident happened on the Lilongwe Bypass Road near Bunda Turn-off.
In his words, High Court Judge John Katsala who represented the Judiciary described Usiwausiwa’s death as a great loss to the Judiciary.
“We are really saddened by Usiwausiwa’s death as it brings the number of judges we have lost from August last year to three. The Judiciary lost Justice Maxon Mbendera, Justice George Bakuwa and now this [Usiwausiwa], so it is really sad,” Katsala said.
Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Samuel Tembenu, represented President Peter Mutharika at the ceremony and said it will be difficult to fill the gap created by Usiwausiwa’s departure.
“As government, we feel that Nyakwawa Usiwausiwa’s death is a loss not only to his family but to the whole nation,” Tembenu said.
Top government officials including Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda, Minister of Local Government Kondwani Nankhumwa and former chief justice Anastanzia Msosa were also in attendance.
