Ugly scenes refuse to die in local football as some Blue Eagles and Kamuzu Barracks (KB) officials were involved in a brawl at half-time of the Airtel Top 8 Cup quarter-final match at Nankhaka Stadium, Lilongwe on Saturday.

In the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms, KB Kit Master, Simeon Nedivala, and Eagles Goalkeepers’ Trainer, Chimwemwe Chitedze, were involved in a scuffle, but the police and stewards intervened.

Following the incident, Eagles were delayed for five minutes on the pitch after the first-half as the police and stewards tried to calm the situation.

The situation remained tense until the end of the game.

Eagles Chairperson, Alexander Ngwala, Sunday said he was aware of the incident but asked for more time to gather information before commenting on it.

“I was outside the country but I heard about it. Let me consult some members in the team. As Eagles, we believe that football is a game not war and if it happened, then it is not good for football,” he said.

KB General Secretary, Michael Chameyere, who watched the game, described the incident as “bad for football”.

“I do not really understand what happened. But we need to avoid such things,” Chamayere said.

During the second leg, KB beat Eagles 2-0 and 6-2 on aggregate to clinch a semi-final berth.
