Wife to former Reserve Bank of Malawi Governor and Times Group Board Chairperson Francis Pelekamoyo will be laid to rest Saturday in Kasungu.
The late Effie Pelekamoyo, who was born in 1948, died at Lilongwe Private Clinic on Wednesday at the age of 69.
According to a press release signed by Times Group Board Member and Managing Director Dr Bernard Zingano and Leonnard Chikadya respectively, there will be a church service at Lingadzi CCAP Church in Lilongwe this afternoon.
After the church service, the remains of the late Pelekamoyo will be taken to her home village in Traditional Authority Wimbe in Kasungu.
In her lifetime, she founded and later became Executive Director of Family Planning Association of Malawi (Fpam).
She was also a church elder of Lingadzi CCAP Church among other roles.
Meanwhile, Fpam Executive Director Thokozani Mbendera has said Pelekamoyo was a champion of sexual and reproductive health in the country.
“The solid foundation that we have as Fpam is coming from her. We were still getting wisdom from her despite not being part of the organisation,” he said.
The communiqué says those seeking immediate details in Lilongwe should contact Zingano on 0888 831 263 and Chikadya on 0888 821 374 for those in Blantyre.
