The United States and the Republic of Malawi will co-host the 2017 African Land Forces Summit (ALFS) to be held in Lilongwe from Monday to Thursday next week.
The summit brings together land forces’ chiefs from across Africa for a candid dialogue to discuss and develop cooperative solutions to regional and trans-regional challenges and threats.
According to a press statement from American Embassy, senior military leaders from across Africa will exchange information on current topics of mutual interest and encourage cooperation in addressing shared challenges.
According to the statement, participants will also learn about the capabilities of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) peacekeeping battalion and experience Malawian culture firsthand.
“Land force chiefs from across the continent will participate in plenary sessions covering three main topics mainly critical war fighting and peacemaking skills, building logistics institutions to support military operations as well as peacekeeping and peace support operations.
“Representatives from the United States and several African militaries will lead detailed discussions during regionally themed breakout meetings,” reads the statement.
This is the fifth ALFS the United States has co-hosted along with partner militaries in Africa.
The theme for this year’s summit is “Enhancing Capacity through Partnership in Africa.”
