Isaac Chilemba off to Canada

South Africa-based boxer Isaac Chilemba is expected to leave for Canada tomorrow to spar with fellow World Boxing Council (WBC) contender Jean Pascal.

“I will be sparring with Pascal ahead of his fight in June against Aleider Avarez for a WBC silverbelt fight,” said Chilemba, who broke his arm last year during a fight in the United States.

“Sparring will be a perfect opportunity for me to test my recovery before considering a return to the ring.”

The 30-year-old Blantyre born boxer insisted that it was normal in boxing to invite, for sparring, a colleague with similar attributes to an opponent.

“If you are fighting and there is someone who has a similar style as your opponent, you can ask them to come up for help. So I will be there for the last three weeks of his training just to help him sharpen up his fight plan,” he added.

Chilemba, (24-3-2, 10 KOs), retired in the eighth round after breaking his elbow at T-Mobile Arena in America during a title fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk last November.

The Malawian was supposed to be out until 2018, but he is now dreaming of returning to the ring this year.
