A new youth radio show aimed at bringing boys and girls together to create a new sound for Malawi known as Zathu Pa Wailesi will hit the airwaves on April 24.

Zathu’s Senior Brand Manager James Kennedy said the show will also include a fascinating drama involving a group of six young Malawians, who are working together to overcome challenges and follow their dreams.

According to Kennedy, the programme aims to inspire a new generation in an effort of building a more equal Malawi where every young person can thrive.

“The show’s presenters will be bringing Zathu Pa Wailesi to the nation every week, playing the freshest tracks and giving boys and girls a chance to hear from their peers and role models on a wide range of topics,” he said.

He added that the topics range from friendship to puberty and that listeners will also have a chance of seeking advice from Zathu’s granny.

Kennedy further said the Wailesi drama follows characters of people coming together as friends and ultimately forming the Zathu band which will in turn focus distinctly on Malawian sound with modern rhythms.

He said the band will also perform music in real life on stages across the country and release singles and videos throughout the year.

Renowned musician Faith Mussa, who writes and produces music for Zathu Band, said the initiative uses Malawi’s love for music to bring out the best in young people.

“Through the power of music, we can encourage young people to be more expressive and develop new positive attitudes at the same time getting the older generation to support the young people as they reach their full potential,” Mussa said.

Zathu Pa Wailesi will be launched through traditional media as well as road show tours which will cover most parts of the country in 13 communities across Zomba, Machinga, Lilongwe and Mzimba.
