The Ndakatulo versus Nthabwala show organised by some of the Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) desks featuring poets and comedians failed to pull a huge audience at Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC) on Easter Sunday.
The show was aimed at raising funds for the desks to assist in some of their programmes.
Despite the low patronage, one of the members of the organising team, Charles Membe, who also performed, said they were not disappointed.
“We are happy we managed to hold the show. We would have loved to have more people but for us, this is just the beginning. We are also doing another show in Mulanje,” he said.
Membe said the show also gave families a good Easter outing.
Some quarters attributed the low patronage to bad weather poor publicity.
“For me they did not do enough in terms of publicity and the weather also did injustice to them. There was also another show at Robin’s Park just close to BCC,” a fan Bright Gondwe said.
Poets brightened the faces of the audience with verses which tackled various issues affecting the country from politics and corruption to education.
Some of the poets, who performed included Sylvester Kalizang’oma, Joseph Madzedze and Raphael Sitima famed for the poem ‘Chala Changa’.
Presidential mimickers – Atcheya, Aunt Geti, Puludzu and Mr Malawi also had their share with Trummel treating the audience to his vibes.
Other notable faces who were present during the show included writer Hoffman Aipira and Mawu Women’s Desk chair Nancy Phiri.
