Police probe Peter Mulomole’s office attack

Police have disclosed that they are making progress in investigations regarding the break-in that happened last Wednesday evening at Zomba Diocese Research and Development offices where Public Affairs Committee (Pac) Publicity Secretary Father Peter Mulomole works.

The robbery happened a day before Pac delivered a statement to journalists in Blantyre, which described the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)- led administration as having failed the country.

Zomba Police Public Relations Officer, Patricia Supuliano, made the disclosure but refused to shed more light.

“I cannot comment much on the leads we have made regarding the matter, because that will jeopardise our investigations. Right now, it is too early to give out the leads we have made just give us time and we shall come out in the public to disclose what we have found,” she said.

Meanwhile, the government has issued a statement distancing itself from any connection to the attack.

The statement, signed by Minister of Information and Communications, Nicholas Dausi, argues that it is unfair to suggest the crime was orchestrated by agents of the government as a response to the uncomplimentary statement by Pac.

“This government does not believe in using violence against voices of dissent. In any case, the statement by Pac was unanimously condemned by the public and has no effect that can worry government. We sympathised with the Catholic Church whose office was directly affected,” reads part of the statement.

In an interview with The Daily Times on Sunday, Mulomole confirmed that his office was among those that had been broken into and ransacked but could not be drawn to say much on the robbery being linked to his activities with Pac.
