Peter Wadabwa, Miracle Gabeya ruled out

The Malawi National Football Team forward Peter Wadabwa and defender Miracle Gabeya have been ruled out of the African Nations Championship (Chan) preliminary round qualifiers against Madagascar.

Wadabwa and Gabeya suffered injuries during training and will be sidelined for six and two weeks, respectively, the Flames Team Manager, Peter Mponda, confirmed Monday.

The duo will miss the away match scheduled for April 22 in Antananarivo and the return game a week later.

“It is true that Wadabwa and Gabeya are injured but the doctor [Enock Mwale] is monitoring the situation. I doubt if we will have them in our games against Madagascar,” Mponda said.

Meanwhile, the Flames have relocated to Nchalo where they are training at Kalulu Stadium to get used to the natural grass.

The Daily Times has established that the match in Antananarivo will be played on natural grass and it is hot on the island, hence the Flames’ relocation to Nchalo.

Kamuzu Stadium and Chiwembe Ground have artificial turfs.

“This week, we will be training in Nchalo because we have learnt that we will not use an artificial turf in Madagascar. I am sure the boys will adapt quickly as in the country, we have a few [two] artificial turfs,” Mponda added.

The Flames are expected to depart on Saturday for Madagascar via Kenya for a friendly on April 18.
