Airtel has teamed up with Cote d’Ivoire and Manchester City star Yaya Toure for the newly launched ‘It’s Now’ campaign, aimed at inspiring people to make their dreams a reality through use of technology.
Speaking during the launch in Lilongwe on Tuesday evening, Airtel Malawi managing director, Heiko Schlittke, said the Cote d’Ivoire and Manchester City star has been chosen as the ambassador because of his success story in football.
“Airtel is privileged to kick off the’ It’s Now’ campaign by partnering with football star as our pan-African brand ambassador.
“Named African Footballer of the year, the Cote d’Ivoire born player has been making soccer history since he started playing in 2001. Yaya serves as a beacon of inspiration, showing that with hard work and dedication you can achieve your dreams,” said Schlittke.
He further said the campaign was designed in a special way to inspire people to achieve their dreams in life.
“As Airtel, we realise that Africa is a continent teeming with possibilities and potential. Malawi, in particular, is a land of possibilities and its citizenry are hardworking people, people that are focused on living colourful dreams, people that are destined to make it happen in a bigger and better way.
“The reality is that people desire to succeed, but their hunger for success is outstripped by their ability to access tools and resources will enable them to achieve their dreams,” he said.
In his remarks, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Joseph Mwandidya, hailed Airtel for the campaign saying it would help empower Malawians to dream in colour.
“I must say that the concept of ‘It’s Now’ goes hand in hand with various government initiatives which aim at empowering Malawians to not only dream but dream in colour and consequently live those dreams by making them a reality,” said Mwandidya.
