Samba International, a charitable organisation in the country, has urged secondary school students in country to work hard at school if they want to go far with education.
Country Director for the organisation, Ulanda Duwe, said this during a career talk programme conducted at Luwinga Secondary Hall, in Mzuzu City.
According to Duwe, the career talk programme is very important to secondary school students because it enables them to choose and start preparing for the career they want to pursue in life. Whether they want education, law, accounting, political science, journalism, and other courses; they need to be enlightened on what subjects they should concentrate on during classes.
Duwe said his organisation is offering scholarships to young girls as one way of promoting education among girls in the country. It also provides writing materials, school bags, and groceries to make sure that the girls are staying in school without any problems.
“Our organisation wants to empower the young girls with decent education, after noting that there is high school dropout and early marriages due to poverty. Our aim is to change lives of young girls and make them become role models to the surrounding communities” Duwe said.
He said that the organisation is paying school fees for young girls in different secondary schools across the country, including, Zomba Catholic Secondary School, Lilongwe Girls Secondary School, Mzuzu Government Secondary School, and Mitundu Secondary School.
Duwe, furthermore, advised the young girls not to indulge themselves in bad behaviour like beer drinking, prostitution, and drug and substance abuse among others.
Samba International was established in 2010, and currently, the organization is assisting more than 300 students in different universities and secondary schools across the country.
