Be Forward Wanderers have threatened to lodge a complaint to the Football Association of Malawi (Fam) following reports that their rivals, Nyasa Big Bullets, have snapped starlet Dave Banda.
Banda stole the limelight with the Southern Region Football Association Premier Division side, Nsanama, after scoring 42 goals last season.
Wanderers General Secretary, Mike Butao, said Banda signed a five-year contract with the Nomads last August.
“Davie Banda, alongside another midfielder from Nsanama, Anthony Namwera, signed contracts with us and we have been expecting them to report for duties,” he said.
“We are treating the issue as mere speculation. However, once the Football Association of Malawi releases the list of the players that have switched sides, we will respond accordingly. If Dave Banda’s name appears at any other team, we will lodge a complaint to Fam.”
Butao claimed that Wanderers had evidence that the players signed for them.
“The two players were identified by a certain MP [Member of Parliament] who supports Wanderers. The MP then linked with our trustee, Rashid Gaffar, who recommended that we sign them,” he said.
Bullets Interim General Secretary, Albert Chigoga, accused Wanderers of trying to frustrate the People’s Team on the transfer market.
“We have our own evidence which suggests otherwise. We had a chat with the player who said he signed a contract with Wanderers in 2012 and the contract was for two years. We spoke with his club before signing him and they assured us that he was not contracted to any team.
“Nsanama officials also claimed that Wanderers were writing them, arguing that they will give them a better offer than Bullets. So, if the player had a contract with Wanderers, why were they ready to counter-offer? This issue must be investigated because I fear that our counterparts were involved in player- tapping,” he said.
Fam Transfer Matching System Manager, Casper Jangale, refused to comment, saying neither club had officially complained to the association.
