Amid interest from several teams including rivals, Nyasa Big Bullets, striker Ishmael Thindwa opted to extend his contract at Be Forward Wanderers in appreciation of the support they rendered to him.
Thindwa’s Manager, Roy Mdechi, told Malawi Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio 2 FM yesterday that Wanderers took care of Thindwa when he struggled with injuries in the last two seasons.
In view of this, Thindwa penned a two-and-half-year deal Wanderers, ending speculations over a switch to Bullets.
“The matter has been sorted out. He is a Wanderers player and he is looking forward to performing well in the forthcoming season,” Mdechi earlier told The Daily Times.
Wanderers Vice General Secretary, Chris Kananji, confirmed that the deal was completed.
“He is a great player and we believe that the fans are happy with the squad,” Kananji said.
On Friday, Wanderers supporters stormed the club’s training ground, pressurising the Executive Committee to offer Thindwa the new deal.
Last week, Thindwa scored as Wanderers lifted the Wafawafa Big Four Bonanza after beating Kamuzu Barracks 2-0 at Bingu National Stadium, Lilongwe in the final.
Thindwa, who joined Wanderers from Caps United after struggling for game-time in Zimbabwe, also scored in the 2-1 win over Silver at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
The former Epac FC forward won the Super League Golden Boot awards in 2011 and 2012.
