South African National First Division side, Jomo Cosmos have set a trap for Blue Eagles if midfield workhorse Micium Mhone rejoins them.
The domestic transfer window closed at midnight on Friday but the midfielder looks likely to rejoin the parent club.
According to a letter from Cosmos, if Mhone rejoins Eagles, the agreement between the two clubs would be null and void.
“The club has negotiated with the above mentioned footballer (Mhone) and reached an agreement to release him and that his contract will be mutually terminated in order for him to join a team of choice. If he [re] joins Eagles in Malawi, the agreement we [Cosmos] have with Eagles is going to be null and void,” reads part of the letter which The Daily Times has seen.
Eagles sold Mhone to Cosmos K17 million (R350, 000) in 2015 but the South African club only paid K10 million (R200, 000).
This means that if Mhone rejoins Eagles, they will sacrifice Mhone’s K7.5 million transfer fee balance.
The other option for Eagles would be letting Mhone join another club and push for his transfer fee balance from Cosmos.
Mhone terminated his contract with Cosmos after refusing a loan move to an unnamed Swaziland club.
But Eagles Chairperson, Alexander Ngwala, said Mhone was going nowhere.
“He came to report to the office that he is back from South Africa and we are glad to have him ahead of the season. We hope that he will add quality to the team,” Ngwala said.
Nyasa Big Bullets and Master Security FC were also interested in signing Mhone.
