Victor Kachepatsonga wins TNM Malawi Open

Seasoned golfer Victor Kachepatsonga was crowned champion of the three-day TNM Malawi Open Championship at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) on Sunday.

Playing off zero handicap, Kachepatsonga braved the chilly weather to collect a gross of 219 for the event, which was played on strokeplay format.

Another seasoned golfer Adam Sailesi grossed 227 to finish in the second place followed by third-positioned Patridge Shycal’s gross of 234.

Kachepatsonga said the victory was a morale booster ahead of a tournament in Zambia.

“I was just focusing on winning the tournament. I am really happy because things went according to my plans,” Kachepatsonga said.

In Division A, Willet Kalonga was the champion followed by Nayan Kalaria and Dan Mvula on second and third positions, respectively.

Mike Kalulu won the B Division championship whereas Yotamu Saka and David Kalenzie finished on second and third positions, respectively.

Dan Phiri won the nearest to the pin on hole number eight whereas Shycal won the longest drive on the last day on hole number 17.

  1. Chitsanzo was the champion in the juniors’ category.

All the winners received various prizes courtesy of TNM. The company celebrated 10 years of its partnership with Golf Union of Malawi.

TNM Chief Officer – Enterprise Services, Vishwajeet Deshmukh, pledged continued sponsorship of the tournament.

“The tournament was a great success and we were overwhelmed with the response from the golfers. As TNM, we promise that there will be more golf activities this year,” said Deshmukh, whose company donated K500, 000 to LGC.

LGC Captain, Brian Coombes, hailed TNM for sponsoring the competition which attracted some 140 golfers.
