Nzatonse Youth Club (NYC) at Engucwini in the area of Traditional Authority Mthwalo, in Mzimba district, has made great strides in improving living standards among youths in the area.
The Patron of the club, Ruth Tchongwe, said schools in the area experienced a lot of challenges before the establishment of the club.
Tchongwe said there were many school dropouts due to early marriages and teenage pregnancies, and most youths indulged themselves in drug and substance abuse.
“There is great behavioural change. Club members take active roles in sensitising peers and some dropouts were brought back to school through outreach approaches and they are performing well in class,” Tchongwe said.
The Principal Group Village Headman, Mulumuzana Mahuza Nzima, commended Nzatonse for transforming the society.
“Unbecoming behavioural cases among youths have lessened with the establishment of the Youth club,” Mahuza Nzima said.
Nzatonse youth club is a subsidiary of the Livingstonia Synod (Health Department) and is made up of students from Engucwini Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba.
