Barely months after becoming the first Malawian born artist to hit a million views on YouTube with his hit ‘Ragga Ragga’, Gemini Major has left Family Tree to start his own record label called Rudebouy Major.
He is reported to have formed a partnership with Fresh 2 Def, which is owned by rapper Da L.E.S.
Under Family Tree, he proved to be the hit maker in local rap and was responsible for Nyovest’s hits such as ‘Fever’, featuring StoneBwoy, and ‘My Heart’, featuring Diamond Platnumz, among others.
The celebrated Malawian producer sneaked into the country, via Kamuzu International Airport, on the March 29. He was accompanied by his South African counterpart Da L.E.S.
But, barely a few minutes after landing on Malawi soil, hip hop artist Tay Grin posted a video on his official page, shouting: ‘Guess who’s in town”? The two were in the background.
Shortly after, pictures started making rounds on social media, with Da L.E.S posing with some fans.
Gemini Major later twitted: “Malawi, I love you guys…The love is real out here. 3rd June we [are] at Robin’s Park. Hope y’all ready!!”
The reason for their visit, therefore, became clear as they ended their day with a late night studio session with Malawian producer, Sonye
In an interview at the airport, Gemini Major and Da L.E.S said they would be back in Malawi to launch Gemini’s debut album in June. The event, to take place at Robin’s Park, will be graced by unnamed South African Artists, Tay Grin and Sonye.
