Southern Region Police Headquarters Tuesday burnt 36 bones of human beings that were found abandoned in Nsanje and some parts of Blantyre such as Green Corner.
The bones were burnt at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital following a court order after the police applied to the court on March 10, 2017 for the bones to be disposed of as they could not trace anyone in connection to the bones.
Southern Region Police Public Relations Officer, Ramsey Nhlane, said police found the bones through tip-offs from members of the general public who found the bones in the gardens close to their homes.
“We are burning these bones because we have no use for them. Since we got the bones, sometime back, we have been doing our investigations. Unfortunately, no one came forward to claim ownership of these bones and also we made no arrests. As such, we feel we cannot continue keeping the bones,” Nhlane said.
He refused to say if among the bones, there are some that are of persons with albinism, saying police are always up in arms to fight against the killings of human beings.
Thugs have been killing persons with albinism looking for their body parts allegedly for use in rituals that can make them rich.
