The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has distanced itself from a statement which purportedly outlined new dress code in the country’s learning institutions.
The fake statement, which was circulating in various media platforms, was directing school officials to admit children in dreadlocks and hijabs.
But spokesperson, Lindiwe Chide, said the statement was not authentic and that investigations are underway to trace the origin of the document.
“That statement did not come from our ministry [of Education]. You have to appreciate that communications [press releases] from the ministry bear the signature of the Secretary which is not the case with this statement. We have an agreement with all our stakeholders including Muslim and the Rastafarian communities, that all our students should be coming to school looking uniform,” she said.
Chide, however, said discussions are underway to consider incorporating religious beliefs into the ministry of education’s dress code for students.
The bogus statement stirred excitement in some sections of the society before in dawned on people that it was fake.
