Gospel artist Patience Namadingo on Sunday invaded Cockpit Lounge in Lilongwe, where he per formed and raised K640,000 meant for the children’s cancer ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
Namadingo put up a two-hour show that culminated in Cockpit management donating a K300,000 cheque to the artist. Management later presented gate collections amounting to K240,000 to the Blantyre-based artist at an event that saw Ben Phiri donate K100,000.
“It is everybody’s duty to contribute towards this cause. I believe that no child should die of cancer in Malawi,” he said in an interview, adding that he had raised K8.5 million in 14 days.
Cockpit Lounge Managing Director, Martin Nkasala, said he was happy that Namadingo made it to the venue.
“We asked him to come for a show where we would also make a donation. He agreed,” Nkasala said.
