PUGILIST Wilson Masamba has fired warning shots ahead of his eight round non-title fight against Zimbabwean boxer, Richard Muriri, today at M1 Centre Point in Lilongwe.

It will be Masamba’s first international bout on home soil since last August, when he defeated Muddy Machine Elia at the same venue.

Both boxers have promised to dish out their best during the bout. Masamba faces one of the toughest tests in his career.

In a pre-fight talk, the Malawian issued a stern warning to the Zimbabwean boxer. “He is in the lion’s den

and should expect a flurry of punches.  I do not want to talk much but I want my fans to come in large numbers and support me,” Masamba said.

The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) boxer has 27 victories and 11 losses in the professional ranks.

But Muriri has also talked tough ahead of the fight. “I have come to Malawi to teach Wilson some boxing lessons and I am promising fireworks,” said Muriri, who has 27 victories and 10 losses.

In the main supporting bout, Tinashe Mwadziwana (also from Zimbabwe) will meet veteran Jobson Adam whereas Chimwemwe Chiotcha will slug it out against Juma Jack.

Mwadziwana is popular amongst Malawian boxing fans, having knocked out Robert Kachiza at Lilongwe Community Centre in 2014. In another supporting bout, Limbani Lano will host another Zimbabwean Simon Madhire.

The Zimbabwean boxers arrived in the country on Wednesday. Malawi Boxing Association (Maba) professional wing has sanctioned the bouts. Maba Professional wing Chairperson, Daud Chikwanje, said all was set for the big contest. “We urge all boxing fans to come and watch the cream of boxers.

All the boxers are in good shape. From the look of things, it will be one of the most exciting boxing contests this year,” Chikwanje said on Friday.
