Total pushes for safety

Total Malawi has urged companies to strive for safety of their employees describing this as a core value that should be followed by all those doing business.

Total Malawi Managing Director, Seggie Kistasamy, said the company is working on various interventions to ensure that everyone working at Total Malawi is protected from workplace accidents.

According to Kistasamy, in the year just gone by, the company performed well on safety standards and did not register any accident among its employees.

Kistasamy was speaking in Lilongwe at a ceremony the company organised to award its best performing employees and outlets.

Among the awards given out were Best Depot of the Year, Best Depot Manager of the Year and Best Employee of the Year.

Total Kanengo Depot emerged the Best Depot of the Year and its operations manager also came tops.

The Depot Manager, Kiddy Sumani, attributed his success to a keen interest in safety standards and team spirit.

“We deal with a lot of people so it is all about discipline, besides team spirit and working together with juniors. These are some of the ways to be successful. We are not going to stop here but still continue to strive for excellence,” he said.

The company’s Operations Manager, Teclezghi Fessehaye, said 2016 was a successful year for the company.

“Safety is what makes us excel on the market. In a competitive market, we ensure our safety strategies and standards are followed. Business is an integrated approach and at Total, we do not take things for granted,” he said.

Kistasamy also said it is important for companies to recognise employees as it motivates them to work harder and do well.

“Employees are the most valuable assert in any organisation. We value our employees for contributing towards the achievements of the company. 2016 has been a phenomenon year for us, all our operations were incident free and safety is a core value to us,” he said.

The Employee of the Year walked away with K250,000 while the Depot Manager of the Year walked away with K100, 000.
