Queen Agnes in charity drive

DJ Queen Agnes, daughter to legendary musician Bright Nkhata, has made it a point to raise enough funds for children at Timalechi Nursary School in Mzimba before she returns to the US this month end.

Queen Agnes, who Friday last week dated music lovers at the Bassment in Blantyre, said in an interview that she is set to hold a fundraiser on Saturday, March 25, in Lilongwe.

“I have organised an event at Latitude13 in Lilongwe, where I will host well-wishers during ‘Cocktails 4 a Cause’ event. I have called it an all-white event because dress code is white.

“Music lovers will get a treat, both from the decks and live performance by Hazel Mak and Bizzy B, while fashion will be taken care of by Kwacha Creations. It is all about art, inspiration and networking. I believe that, through art, we can reach out to the vulnerable in society,” Queen Agnes said.

Queen Agnes said she also wants to impart art skills in children in Mzimba, where she manages charity events. She came back home last year to rekindle her relationship with her homeland and also to fundraise for the less-privileged in society.

“We have an art class at our school and will partner with Fount for Nations organisation for more creative skills-learning [sessions] for our special needs students. Fount for Nations is based in Malawi, and implements projects in Blantyre.

“This is my first official fundraiser in Malawi. A pool party with a purpose. Yes it’s a daytime cocktail party in the affluent area 43. I have chosen this venue because I am targeting a mature, philanthropic audience,” Queen Agnes said.
