Patience Namadingo’s ‘K1.2 million in 40 Days Campaign’ has generated triple the amount in just eight days.
This has prompted the team to raise that amount to K5 million.
The singer last week initiated a campaign meant to raise K1.2 million to be donated to the Children’s Cancer Ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre.
“After a successful of “All New Namadingo” show at the Bingu International Conference Centre, we decided that it is high time we gave back to the people, who supported me during the show”, Namadingo said.
As of Thursday, the team had raised K4.2 million in eight days.
One of the places where Namadingo performed to a live audience is Options Clothing Store in Blantyre.
The shop’s owner, Rose Biswick, said she felt duty-bound to contribute as one way of giving back to society.
“When we heard that Patience Namadingo is raising money to donate to the Cancer Ward at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, we saw the need for us to support this very good initiative and give back to society.” Biswick said.
The live performance lasted over an hour and the eager audience requested songs that Patience duly performed. He even spiced up the activity by composing impromptu lyrics.
One of Namadingo’s fans, Natasha Mbalule, said music brings people together and has the potential to develop the nation if leaders embrace such campaigns.
“It is important that everyone uses whatever talent and platform they have to promote a good cause” Mbalule said.
Namadingo said this is just the beginning of projects of this nature.
“I did not plan on making this public right now, but the response to this campaign has been satisfying. We plan to initiate another project one week after ending the campaign for the cancer ward. This is about giving back to the people who have always believed in me and supported my music.
