Too poor to afford a flag?

The Department of Road Traffic and Safety Services is one of the government arms that generate revenue for operations of the state through payments for vehicle certificate of fitness tests, issuance of drivers’ licences and vehicle registration.

Ordinarily, the directorate’s offices should be well-equipped with all the necessities for its operations—being the goose that lays golden eggs.

But the tattered and worn out national flag at the directorate’s Makata Industrial Area in Blantyre paints a picture of poverty in the midst of plenty.

The directorate deposits millions into government’s account Number One but cannot afford a decent national flag.
