Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has asked clubs to deposit K1 million each for them to participate in the 2017 TNM Super League.
Fam Transfer Matching System and Club Licensing Manager, Casper Jangale, said the money would be refunded to the clubs in December upon fulfillment of the requirements.
Fam introduced Club Licensing last year but only a few teams such as Blue Eagles and Be Forward Wanderers met the requirements.
Jangale added that the clubs have up to March 11 2017 to meet the requirements.
The pre-conditions include that each club must have clear legal ownership, youth team, secretariat, training ground, trained coaches and doctors.
“This year, we started the Club Licensing process on January 1 and we gave the clubs five necessary requirements such as youth development, infrastructure, administration and contracts,” he said.
Jangale added that the fee will help clubs wake up from slumber and run football professionally.
