Malawi Paralympic Committee through its arm, the Para Athletics Committee (PAC), has kicked off an athletes’ identification exercise in readiness for the 2020 Paralympics Games in Japan. The committee has since identified six athletes who will compete at the regional level at Mulanje District Council Ground on Saturday.
Speaking after the event, PAC’s Chairperson, Joseph Galanje, said he was satisfied with the outcome of the trials.
“I am impressed with the athletes that have been unearthed as they have the quality to excel. They just need to be polished up and be given the necessary training,” Galanje said.
He said the association’s main aim is to unearth the best athletes capable of bringing medals from international events.
The athletes were identified through short distance competitions that take places in various locations. Six athletes from each region will be identified with the winners competing at the regional level.
From the regional event, athletes will eventually face off at the national level to select the best to represent Malawi at the 2020 Olympics.
